K.I.S.S.

This ico-term carries two connotations with it.

Keep It Simple Stupid.

Or

Keep It Short and Simple.

This term is normally applied to marketing and engineering type situations but with all the innovation and technology available for teaching today it can very easily be applied to educational situations.

Why?

Because a majority of the time the innovation is presented with a lot of what is called razzle-dazzle and it tends to confuse potential users while attempting to impress them. Everyone likes (well almost everyone) new technology but if we do not understand it we will not readily use it.

The thing to keep in mind is that the first step in introducing something new is that it wins acceptance from the ones who would be using it. If they do not understand the principle they will shy away from it waiting for someone else to be first. This could delay or even impede the utilization of innovations that could help.

So why not utilize the principles of Plain English when introducing an innovation, that is to say use language that your audience will comprehend and readily accept. It just might help in overcoming certain hurdles in the initial stages, which is the presenting of what it is and how it can help, thereby removing the hurdle of fear of the unknown.
